The historic observation watches measured 55 mm and were worn over the flight jacket. The Westerland picks up on that presence: a historically faithful original pilot watch with a type A dial, a hand-wound movement and a powerful 45 mm case.
On a surface this size, the type A dial shows its full clarity. The large numerals and the triangle with two dots at 12 o'clock are readable from any angle, while blued hands and luminous material provide orientation at night.
The construction follows the 1940s originals down to the last detail: barrel-shaped case, straight lugs, pressed-in case back with engraving, dark sandblasted finish and a large crown that can be operated even with gloves on. Of the five historic manufacturers, Laco is the only one worldwide that still makes pilot watches this way today.
The hand-wound movement calls for a few turns of the crown every day – a ritual that belongs to a true observation watch. The wide brown riveted calfskin strap carries the weight with ease. A watch for anyone unafraid of real presence on the wrist.
