The Kempten Erbstück tells the story of an observation watch in a small format. It is a historically faithful, hand-aged pilot watch with a type B dial, hand-wound movement and a 39 mm diameter – a piece that looks as if it has been handed down through the family.
Every scuff is intentional. At Laco, the case, dial, hands and strap are aged individually and by hand until the watch looks as though it has been worn for decades. Because every step is done individually, no two Kempten Erbstück watches are alike.
The construction follows the observation watches of the 1940s: barrel-shaped case, straight lugs, closed press-fit case back with engraving and a crown modeled on the historical original. Of the five historic manufacturers worldwide, Laco is the sole one still making pilot watches in this construction today.
The hand-wound movement is wound daily, just like on the historical models. The brown riveted vintage leather strap is aged as well. The aging comes in three levels, from subtle to heavily marked.
