The Friedrichshafen brings two things together: the full presence of a 45 mm case and the convenience of an automatic movement. It is a historically faithful pilot watch with a type B dial – with a large outer minute track and an inner hour ring, just as the navigators of the 1940s read it.
The movement winds itself with every motion of your wrist, while the construction remains historical. The barrel-shaped case, straight lugs and closed press-fit case back match the originals, as does the dark sandblasted finish with the marking FL23883. As the only one of the five historic manufacturers worldwide, Laco still builds pilot watches in this form today.
Blued hands and luminous material keep the display legible day and night, and the domed sapphire crystal refracts light just as on the historical models. The large crown remains easy to operate even with gloves on.
The wide brown riveted calfskin strap suits the powerful case. A watch for anyone who wants to wear the original in a large size but would rather not wind it every day.
