Minutes on the outer ring, hours on the inside: the first time you look at the Aachen 42, you read the time differently from what you are used to. This automatic watch from the Pilot Watches BASIC collection features the type B dial – the dial developed for the navigators on board. Using a watch and an octant, they determined their aircraft’s position, and for them every minute counted. So the minute takes center stage on the outer edge.
Laco brings this tool into the present. While the ORIGINAL series recreates its historical models as faithfully as possible, the BASIC is the modern interpretation of the pilot watch: the satin-finished case with curved lugs hugs the wrist, and at 42 mm it has presence without ever feeling heavy. By day, the crisp contrast of white on black keeps everything easy to read; at night, the luminous material takes over.
Through the exhibition case back you can watch the automatic movement at work – it winds itself with every movement of your arm. The brown vintage leather strap with rivets grows softer over the years and tells its own story.
The Aachen is a pilot watch for every day – at the office, on the road and on the weekend: contemporary in design, without denying its origins.
